Tasting note:

The Illusion is a dark ruby colour with an intense nose of plum, blackberry and a touch of vanilla.

The palate is fuller bodied but well balanced, with plenty of juicy fruit flavours. More blackberry and plum show here, with a touch of earhty black pepper on the long finish.

About the wine:

Vina Mayu's Illusion is a blend of Syrah and Carmenere grapes carefully grown in Chile's Elqui Valley, bordering the Atacama Desert, at an altitude of around 1800 feet. The vines have an average age of 13 years.

After harvest and a gentle pressing, each varietal undergoes a temperature controlled fermentation in stainless steel tank with 4 days cold maceration to achieve the best fruit extraction.

Instead of the tradi􀆟onal pumping over method, they use punchdowns to preserve the best tannins, color extrac􀆟on and expression of terroir possible

The Syrah and the Carmenere wines are then partially aged in a mixture of French and American oak barrles, for around 5 months before blending andf bottling.

About the producer:

The Olivier family started Viña Mayu in 2005 and were the first to bring winemaking to the Elqui Valley. They honour the place and its history with the name of the winery - "Mayu" is the Inca word for the Milky Way's “river of stars”. The driving force for Mayu was transforming a tract of extreme terroir with enormous poten􀆟al into a vineyard producing premium wines.
