Tasting notes:

The Vina Alberdi Reserva is an attractive deep cherry colour with a hint of brick red around the rim.

The nose is full of fleshy red fruit, with strawberries and blackberries adding lightness to darker notes of cherry, slight coffee and touches of earthy balsamic.

The palate shows further rich red fruit, with more distinct cherry and mocha coffee, mature strawberry and lovely creamy notes of vanilla. The acididty balances the weight well, the tannins are soft and the aftertaste lingers with touches of spice and cherry.

About the wine:

The vineyards that these Tempranillo grapes came from are over thirty years old and grow in clay-calcareous soils at 1600-2600 feet above sea level.

A dry winter was compensated for by abundant spring rainfall, helping the vines grow and the canopy develop. The bunches of grapes yieled fewer grapes than normal but the loose, small grapes were of much higher quality.

As the summer progressed, mild temperatures meant a long, slow ripening period producing wonderfully good grapes with the optimal balance of sugar and fruit flavour. This vintage was officially rated as 'Very Good' by the Control Board.

Te grapes were carefully harvested, pressed and gently fermented beforea two-year ageing period (first year in brand new barrels and second in three-year-old average barrels) in American oak barrels. It was hand-racked by candelight four times and bottled in March 2010.
