Tasting notes:

The Dalwhinnie Chardonnay is a clear, bright light straw colour.

The nose is a subtle mix of citrus notes, lemon and lime peel, minerals, floral notes and slight vanilla, almpnd and fine woody touches.

The palate is very fine, with refreshing citrus fruits, sherbert with a hint of apple and honey, richer, lingering vanilla from the oak, with a gentle mouthfeel. The wine has balanced, crisp acidity with a long, continuous finish.

About the wine:

The Dalwhinnie vineyard is located in a unique amphtheatre that has its own meso climate.

The site is totally frost free allowing the fruit to reach complete physiological ripeness 90% of the time. The climate is temperate, with an average January temperature of 21°c. The annual average rainfall is 550mm with most rain falling in July through to November.

All harvesting of the grapes is done by hand, usually starting around the third week in March to be complete usually around the first week in May.

The Dalwhinnie Moonambel undergoes a period of ageing in the best quality French Oak.

About the producer:

Located near the tiny village of Moonambel in the heart of the Pyranees region of Western Victoria, Dalwhinnie specialize in premium Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. After 27 years growing grapes, the 18 hectare vineyard is now fully mature, producing true varietal fruit characters with great concentration of flavours.

At 595 metres above sea-level Dalwhinnie is the highest and most remote of the Pyranees district vineyards, surrounded and sheltered by the highest range, located in a naturally undulating trough which falls away from the hills, forming an amphitheatre nesteled into the ranges.

Ownership of the Dalwhinnie Estate has remained within one family since the remote property was purchased in 1972 by Ballarat architect, Ewan Jones. The vineyards were established in 1976 and since 1983 his eldest son David has managed the winery, taking over ownership with his wife, Jenny, in 1994.
