Tasting notes:

The Dalva Colheita 1995 is a deep, dark amber colour with notes of red/orange.

The nose is a wonderful mix of aromas, showing red fruits underneath spice, mince pies, nutty almond and walnuts.

On the palate the port shows considerable depth, with the sweetness nicely tempered by refreshing fruits. There are lovely notes of coffee, nuts and the oxidized character. The finish is long and sumptuous without being cloying.

Serve this port slightly chilled and you'll be rewarded with a lovely, complex and satisfying aperatif or accompaniment to cheese or nutty puddings. Bakewell tart would work a treat.

About the port:

After harvesting and fermentation, neutral grape spirit is added to the wine. This halts fermentation, increases the alcohol content and leaves a significant amount of residual sugar, hence the sweetness.

This Dalva Colheita 1995 is then aged in oak casks 16 years (bottled 2011), to develop the signature colour and oxidizated flavour.

About the producer:

The company was established in the Douro in 1862 by the Portuguese family, Correa Ribeiro. The name was then changed in 1957 to the now C. da Silva when Mr Clemente da Silva received the company through marriage.

The company is dedicated to perfecting the art of production of  the finest port, through careful selection of the best wines in each vintage.

During the ageing process, careful monitoring of quality takes place by highly skilled winemakers in modern, technologically advanced laboratories.
