Tasting notes:

Cool perfumed nose with a sweet plumy merlot core. Cranberries and cooked strawberries on the palate with nicely managed tannins. Refreshing, cool, cherry juice with some nice herbal influences.

About the wine:

The grapes are carefully hand picked with the first selection of grapes on the vine. Mechanical sorting of the grapes by vibration, followed by hand sorting.

Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled conical stainless-steel tanks with the wine macerating for 18 to 21 days with pumping over done twice a day. Fermentation at 26°C. Malolactic fermentation (indigenous lactic bacteria) in stainless steel at 20°C.

The wine is then aged for 18 months in 60% new barrels before fining with egg whites.

About the producer:

Capbern Gasqueton occupies 41 hectares, excellently situated to the south of Calon Segur and not far from the other leading lights on the appellation, Montrose and Cos d’Estournel. The wines display classic St Estephe minerality, ample black fruit character and in the best vintages will reward ten year’s cellaring. In June 2012, following the death of Denise Capbern Gasqueton, the estate formed part of the €170M purchase of Calon Segur by French insurance company Suravenir.
